The team travelled to a sun kissed Margam park in Wales for the third round of the
British MTB Series on the back of some good form and in high spirits. The weekend
included the British Marathon championships which the majority of the team had committed
to so it was sure to be a long weekend especially with temperatures forecast at
around 25 degrees.
As the team woke up to sweltering heat Alex prepared for his early start in the
Youth category on a course very different to previous years with new sections and
constant climbing on varied terrain. Alex set off at his usual blistering pace getting
a good start and settling into the front group of the race.
With the laps adjusted for Youth and Junior Alex found himself with 3 tough laps
but paced himself well eventually finishing 9th, a good result for the first year
youth rider.
Next off were our two in form Juniors who also had an extra lap to complete and
with the sun at his strongest it was to be a tough test for the two youngsters.
Ben was first home in 9th position as his steady progress continues after early
season illness whilst Nat took 12th place, a very good result for a first year Junior
rider. All three of our YDS riders are in the form of their lives producing consistent
results on a weekly basis, all with a great future ahead of them.
In the Expert race, Brodie continued with his comeback from injury with a solid
ride to finish 28th and with it picking up some valuable ranking points.
The ride of the day though went to Chris Andrews in the elite race. He has already
produced some consistent results in his first year as an Elite but a 14th place
finish here exceeded all expectations and is a credit to the effort that he has
put into his training and preperation. Also in the Elite category Paul put in a
solid performance to finish in 30th position.
So once again the team put in some remarkable performances on the National stage
and, they now look towards the Midlands Championships and then onto a busy period
which includes the next National series race and the National Championships in July.
